AoCTP was founded in 1992 to promote a flat income tax, but has expanded into regulatory issues covering energy, social security reform, the Internet and global warming.

AoCTP's mission is "to bring common sense back into government by actively promoting, publishing, educating the public about and lobbying for public policies that foster limited government, personal accountability, a freer open market and the promotion of entrepreneurial solutions." (http://www.aoctp.org/about.shtml) AoCTP views the "supposed evidence of warming as a weapon to attack the American economy." (http://www.aoctp.org/gw.shtml) AoCTP is a member of the Cooler Heads Coalition and says the organization has "lent our name and resources to help maintain the Cooler Heads Coalition website."
