Government Relations Director, Heartland Institute
John Nothdurft joined Heartland's staff in May 2008 as legislative specialist on buget, tax, and tobacco policy.

Nothdurft’s responsibilities as government relations director at Heartland include managing the Government Relations Department staff and tracking their performance; interacting with elected officials and staff; tracking new legislation; and drafting responses to emerging issues via talking points, news releases, and op-ed pieces, with the goal of educating legislators and informing them about free-market ideas.

Bachelor of arts degree in political science from the University of Mississippi Press coordinator for Americans for Fair Taxation. Joined Heartland as a legislative director in 2008 Named Government Relations Director in 2010


As national press coordinator for Americans for Fair Taxation, Nothdurft managed the media relations efforts and played a central role in organizing a 25-stop Iowa bus tour leading up to the 2006 Iowa Straw Poll. The tour was called the “biggest success story in the 2008 Republican primary season” by National Review.

Mr. Nothdurft has a blog at the Heartland Instute where he voices his climate skepticism and anti-regulatory views.
