Lindsey has been an economic advisor to President Reagan and both President Bushes. Lindsey, who had been a highly paid Enron Consultant just the year before, led a fall 2001 White House study into the "possible economic consequences of an Enron failure,,,suggest [ing] that concern for the company and the consequences of its collapse were more widely discussed than the White House has been willing to acknowledge. " (James Toedtman, NewsDay, January 17, 2002) Lindsey was paid $50,000 by Enron in 2000 "for providing 'macroeconomic advice' as a member of the company's advisory council." (Newsday, January 17, 2002).
