Hudson Institute is a conservative think tank that runs a number of research centers including the Center for Global Food Issues, which promotes pesticides and biotechnology.

In its value statement, Hudson declares, "We demonstrate commitment to free markets and individual responsibility, confidence in the power of technology to assist progress, respect for the importance of culture and religion in human affairs, and determination to preserve America's national security." (

Dennis Avery, Hudson's primary critic of organic produce, also serves as the resident global warming skeptic. Recent articles by Avery include, "Does Carbon Dioxide Really Affect Temperatures?" and "New Science Says Global Warming Will Be Moderate."

Key Quotes

September 4th, 2003

"For a decade, the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change has pushed the theory of fierce man-made global warming, supposedly caused by burning fossil fuels. It would theoretically drive temperatures up as much as 10 degrees Fahrenheit. The IPCC wants American to join the Kyoto Protocol, quickly doubling U.S. energy prices, without making much impact on the warming. However, most of the earth's recent warming occurred before 1940, and thus before much greenhouse gas was released by human factories and cars. The headlines scream that recent temperatures are 'the highest ever recorded' but the records go back only to 1860, during the world's recovery from the Little Ice Age."

"Critical to the Marshall analysis is the reality that higher CO2 levels act as fertilizer for trees and plants, and that higher CO2 levels also reduce the amount of energy 'wasted' by virtually all plant species on a process called photorespiration. As long as temperatures and CO2 are both rising, trees and plants will be vigorous enough to exploit warming's opportunities to expand their range, rather than getting death notices from Greenpeace."
